About CaRMS
History

Prior to 1970, the match was organized and conducted by the Canadian Association of Medical Students (CAMS). After experiencing difficulties, it was unanimously decided that the Association of Medical Colleges would assume the responsibility of the match while establishing an Advisory Committee made up of sponsoring medical organizations to establish policy.
In 1982, the Advisory Committee of CaRMS, then called CIMS (Canadian Interns Matching Service), agreed to establish the organization as an independent non profit organization, separate from existing medical organizations, which would continue to provide current established matching services and related support services as in the past.
In August 1994, CIMS was incorporated under the new name Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS).
In September 2002, CaRMS offered an electronic application process for the match, for both Applicants and Programs.
In September 2005, Quebec francophone schools joined the organization for a 2 year pilot project making CaRMS Match truly national.
