Main Residency Match (R-1)
Application Process - Fees

- All applicants to participate in the CaRMS match are required to pay
a registration of $246.00 + applicable taxes.
This fee includes applications to four programs.
- All amounts are subject to applicable taxes based on your province of residence.
- 13% HST in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador
- 5% GST in all other provinces/territories
- No tax - Out of Country
- Fees are paid using credit card (VISA or MasterCard) while in the Applicant Webstation (AWS). CaRMS' GST number is 125712174 RT.
- Applicants choosing to apply to more than four programs will be required
to pay $24 plus applicable taxes for each additional program to which they apply.
- A fee of $88.00 plus applicable taxes, for verification of credentials, will
be charged to all applicants at the time of submitting their Request for Registration.
This payment must be made by VISA or MasterCard.
- Applicants who wish to register with CaRMS for the second iteration
of the CaRMS match after the request for registration deadline has
passed,
will be charged the verification fee
of $88.00 (if applicable) and double the registration fee ($150.00x2=$300) plus applicable
taxes, if they are granted permission to join the match. This payment
must be made by VISA or MasterCard.

Any applicant in 1st iteration who submits a Rank Order list and does not match will be automatically moved to 2nd iteration at no charge to the applicant.

Any applicant who wishes to remove themselves from consideration for 1st iteration and be moved to 2nd iteration can do so at no charge by e-mailing the CaRMS office before the Rank Order list deadline. NOTE: An applicant making this request will not be able to submit a Rank Order list for 1st iteration.

Any applicant who does not submit a Rank Order list by the Rank Order deadline in 1st iteration is NOT automatically moved to 2nd iteration. If an applicant from 1st iteration does not submit a Rank Order list and requests to be moved to 2nd iteration after Rank Order list deadline, a $134 administration fee will be charged to their AWS account.
- Students and graduates of Canadian medical schools who wish to use the
Association of American Medical Colleges' Electronic Residency
Application Service (ERAS) to apply to the United States will
be charged $235 plus applicable taxes for dean's office services.
This fee will be paid at the time of submitting their Request for Registartion for "ERAS". This payment must be made by VISA or MasterCard
- Fees for university medical schools are based on quota and on the number
of applications submitted to programs in the previous year's match
plus and an undergraduate administrative fee and a fee per graduate.
- Applicants can choose to have their original documents returned to them
at the address listed on the Applicant Webstation (AWS) personal
data page after the match is complete. The following fees will apply:
- $24 for addresses in Canada
- $30.00 for addresses in the United States
- $100 for International addresses
- CaRMS will return eligible
documents to applicants if the medical school to which an applicant
matches does not request the documents for their files. Documents
that are not returned to applicants, except for dean's letters,
medical school transcripts and letters of reference will be destroyed
once the match is complete. CaRMS does not return letters of reference
to applicants.
- CaRMS will upon request return original extra documents and photographs for the fees above.
- CaRMS will upon request return original transcripts, dean's letters, and
extra documents including TOEFL and TSE scores for the fees above.
- Tuition and registration fees may be charged by the institution to
which you are matched. These are not CaRMS fees.

- Information regarding tuition fees has been provided by the assistant/associate
dean of postgraduate medical education at each university. Please view
the universities' introduction pages in the CaRMS Program Directory
on-line for this information.
- CaRMS is a not-for-profit, fee-for-service organization. Therefore, all fees for registration and application including those received from applicants who later withdraw or are unmatched are NON-REFUNDABLE.
- CaRMS does not issue refunds to applicants for any program that the student wishes to withdraw from after submitting a selected program that is cancelled
by a university after the applicant registration deadline date.
- A cheque which is returned by the bank will cost the issuer $30 for bank charges.
