Main Residency Match (R-1)
Application Process - R-1 Registration/ R4R

- If you are a current graduate of a participating Canadian medical school
CaRMS will receive from your Undergraduate office, a list of
graduate students' e-mail addresses. CaRMS will automatically
send each graduating student a token to access the Applicant
Webstation (AWS).
- In order for you to register with CaRMS, you will be required to complete a Request for Registration. The information collected includes, your name, address, medical school of graduation, year of graduation.
- Please remember, once you have submitted a Rank Order List you are
entering a legally binding contractual agreement. The results of the
match, if you are matched to a position in the 2nd Iteration, take
precedence over your current training program obligations. Furthermore,
if you have signed a contract to renew with your current program, you
should seek the advice of your postgraduate office regarding your liabilities
if you plan to withdraw from it as there may be legal implications.
- In order for you to register with CaRMS, you will be required to
complete a Request for Registration. The information collected includes,
your name, address, medical school of graduation, year of graduation,
type of studies completed (allopath or osteopath). Some applicants
may also be required to supply their Medical Council of Canada candidate
number (found on your examination registration or results letter).
You will be required to pay your verification fee at this time. Once
your eligibility is confirmed and payment has been processed, CaRMS
will send you a token to access the Applicant Webstation (AWS).
- In order for you to register with CaRMS, you will be required to
complete a Request for Registration. The information collected includes,
your name, address, medical school of graduation, year of graduation,
and Medical Council of Canada candidate number (found on your examination
registration or results letter). You will be required to pay your verification
fee at this time. Once your eligibility is confirmed and payment has
been processed, CaRMS will send you a token to access the Applicant
Webstation (AWS).
- This process must be completed by
- prior year graduates from all Canadian medical schools
- students and graduates from United States medical schools
- international medical graduates
To complete the on-line Request for Registration
you will need to choose the iteration you would like to register for based
on your eligibility.
International medical graduates and doctors of osteopathy should note the following:
- You will require your Medical Council of Canada Candidate Code Number, found
on the lower right corner of your Medical Council of Canada Statement
of Results; or found on the top left corner of your Medical Council
of Canada letter that accompanied your entrance card to an examination
- You will be charged a fee of $88.00 plus applicable taxes for verification of
credentials, payable on-line by VISA or MasterCard.
- Once your Request for Registration has been reviewed and the fee for verification
of credentials has been processed, you will be sent an electronic "token" by
e-mail.
You will not be fully registered until you have
- used your token to sign on to the Applicant Webstation (AWS)
- accepted your CaRMS Contract, and
- paid the registration fee.
NOTE: You cannot sign on to AWS to have a look. Applicants must pay their fees and register when they use their token or they may be denied access to like system when they try to sign on later.
Payment is made on-line using VISA or MasterCard.
Once you have completed these three steps, you will be fully registered.
However, you must still complete, save, and submit all of information
required in the items under the Application tab, select and submit your
program choices and assign documents to those programs in order to have "applied" to
programs.
