2020 R-1 Main Residency Match
If you are a new UG admin and would like to register for a CaRMS Online account, find out how in our Help Centre.
You will notice that there are milestones and deadlines listed in this timeline. Milestones are simply recommended dates designed to help you keep your application on track during each phase of the application process. These milestones are not deadlines.
All registered applicants are sent an email with information on how to log into CaRMS Online and start their application.
Applicants who already have a CaRMS Online account can log in using their existing username and password to participate in the match. If they’ve forgotten their username or password, they can click on the Forgot your username or password option on the CaRMS Online login page.
While we will process any translation requests for MSPRs, transcripts and letters of reference during the second iteration, we cannot guarantee that they will be in the applicant’s account and ready to assign to programs by the opening of file review on March 19.
A list of unfilled positions from the first iteration is posted on carms.ca.
Unmatched applicants from the first iteration may log into CaRMS Online and participate in the second iteration.
Note: program selection for the second iteration opens on March 5 at 12:00 (noon) ET.
All MCC examinations and documents should be shared in the physiciansapply.ca transfers section of their application on CaRMS Online by today to ensure an applicant’s examination scores and documents are retrieved from the MCC before file review begins on March 19.
Note: we will continue to process transfer requests after this date, but cannot guarantee scores and documents will be available from the MCC before file review due to the time required for processing.
A list of unfilled positions from the first iteration is posted on CaRMS.ca and applicants may start selecting the programs to which they wish to apply.
Program descriptions for all programs participating in the second iteration are available on carms.ca.
If your university is sending a hardcopy of an applicant’s Medical School Performance Record (MSPR) and transcript to the CaRMS Document Centre, they should arrive by this date to guarantee they will be processed into their account before March 19 when programs start reviewing applications.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to follow university procedures to ensure their medical school transcript and MSPR are sent directly to CaRMS. Applicant’s can verify whether documents have been received through their Document Tracking section in CaRMS Online.
Note: we will continue to process hardcopy documents that arrive after this date, but, due to the high volume of documents received, we cannot guarantee they will be available in an account before file review begins.
If an applicant’s referees are sending hardcopy letters of reference by mail, applicants should ensure they arrive at CaRMS by today to guarantee they will be processed into their CaRMS Online application before letters of reference are available for programs to review on March 19.
Note: we will continue to process letters that arrive after this date, but, due to the volume of documents received, we cannot guarantee they will be scanned into an application before March 19.
Applications and all required documents assignments to programs must be completed by the opening of file review on March 19 at 12:00 (noon) ET to be considered on time.
All applications and documents assignments completed after today will be time-stamped as late.
Note: some programs will not review late applications or a document that arrives late. We encourage applicants to review program descriptions to ensure programs will review your application if it is submitted after file review has begun.
Programs now have access to all submitted applications and documents. They will review applications and communicate with applicants to schedule interviews.
Note: there is no designated national interview period for the second iteration of the R-1 Main Residency Match.
Applicants and programs may begin creating their rank order lists.
Applicants must have their rank order list submitted through CaRMS Online by 15:00 ET. This deadline is firm – no rank order lists can be submitted after today.
Note: you may modify your submitted list, but you must re-submit the list before the deadline.
Match results for the second iteration of the 2020 R-1 Main Residency Match are available through CaRMS Online.
This is the last day to access information in your CaRMS Online account for the 2020 R-1 Main Residency Match. You will no longer have access to the information in your application after this date.
