Important Information

Royal College Certification in Anesthesiology, Cardiac Surgery, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, or Internal Medicine, or enrolment in a Royal College approved training program in these areas (see requirements for these qualifications). Three years of primary specialty must be completed prior to the entry into the Critical Care Medicine program. Entrance from other specialties may occur but must follow completion of the primary specialty training and must include the prerequisites of:

  • 3 months in a general care medical/surgical ICU, and
  • 15 months of clinical rotations in Internal Medicine and / or General Surgery.

Selection Criteria

It is our mandate to develop leaders in critical care. We are seeking creative, motivated and self directed learners. Applicants who are able to convey to the committee these features will be highly regarded by the interview and selection committee.

Program Highlights

We offer a diverse and comprehensive teaching experience. We have a very large clinical and research faculty that spans the spectrum of critical care. The trainee will obtain experience in a variety of intensive care units and gain experience in the management of patients with medial, surgical, neurological illnesses, transplantation and trauma.

We have an exciting didactic and interactive series of teaching sessions. The summer physiology series July and August), core lecture series (Sept to June), simulation sessions, communication series, bioethics series, journal club, clinical research in progress rounds, bronchoscopy course, transportation course and leadership course.

We encourage trainees to develop novel training pathways to enhance their experience and a foundation for their career path..
