Program Highlights

The GIM Fellowship program maintains a high degree of flexibility in training, allowing each fellow’s curriculum to be tailored to their individual needs and career goals. There is an opportunity to gain training in special skills during the fellowship year.

McMaster University has a strong and expanding GIM Department, with the opportunity to offer varying experiences at the different hospitals in the city.

The fellowship offers both a 1 year clinically focused program and a 2 year program that can be geared towards an academic stream. The program is strongly supportive of both programs and offers mentorship for both clinically focused fellows and academically/ research oriented fellows. The program will have a separate mentor and advocate for those fellows interested in a 2 year masters program to be done concurrently with the clinical fellowship to enhance career development.

Program Curriculum

Core requirements include the following:

  • two months Junior Attending on the CTU
  • one month GIM consult service
  • one month community GIM
  • one month obstetrical medicine rotation
  • six months continuity clinic (1/2 day a week)
  • a research or educational project to be completed during the year

Strongly suggested is one month ICU/CCU if applicant has completed less than four months of it during their core training, and a one month obstetrical medicine rotation.

The curriculum includes a protected academic half-day on Wednesday afternoons.
