Important Information

All candidates who have completed residency training in a Royal College accredited internal medicine, general surgery, emergency medicine or anaesthesia base specialty training program are welcome to apply. Candidates must have completed training in their program on entry to the CCM program at the University of Ottawa, except in specific situations where an overlap year has been agreed to by the base specialty of the candidate and the Adult Critical Care Training Program. The number of Fellows accepted to the program varies annually.

Interviews

Selection Criteria

The Selection Committee of the Adult Critical Care Training Program reviews all applications and provides a short list by ranking criteria set out by the Residents Program Committee.

Program Highlights

Flexible electives geared to individual career paths.
Busy, large, multidisciplinary Intensive Care Units;
Dedicated Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit

Program Curriculum

Fifteen core ICU training blocks.
Maximum of three Research blocks
Eight Elective blocks with electives geared to the care of the critically ill patient.

Academic Half Day is held each Thursday afternoon.
Critical Care Journal Club is held one Tuesday evening of each month.
Critical Care Research Day is held in June of each year. Attendance is mandatory.
Two to three patient simulation teaching session per year

Intensive Care Units at The Ottawa Hospital – Civic and General Campuses
Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute
Community ICU sites: Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa
