Although Friday September 30, 2011 is the Division of Geriatric Medicine's preferred date to interview, the Division of Geriatric Medicine at UWO is flexible and willing to consider requests for alternate dates if required.

Program Highlights

Dynamic faculty committed to teaching. Both core and elective rotations occur in a variety of settings from rural to inpatient. Strong links with subspecialties offering electives in Behavioural Neurology, Movement Disorders, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Exciting opportunity for a joint fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology. Research skills are fostered with significant opportunities to participate in research at varied levels and many areas of interest.

Program Resources: Division of Geriatric Medicine at UWO has been very supportive of residents; supporting international travel to meetings, leadership courses, and support and mentoring in establishing careers. Our excellent Evaluation and Research group is available to assist with research projects.

Program Curriculum

Core PGY4 Year:
Geriatric Rehabilitation (3 blocks), Geriatric Psychiatry (3 blocks), Research (2 blocks), Community Resource (1 block), Administrative Rotation (1 block), Outreach/Day Hospital (3 blocks).

Core PGY5:
Acute Care for the Elderly Junior Attending (1 block), In-Patient Consult Liaison Junior Attending (1 block), Research (2-4 blocks), Electives (6-8 blocks).

An out-patient longitudinal clinic is mandatory for one half day per week throughout the two years.

Community Geriatric experience is offered as a block or as longitudinal clinics throughout the two years.

Parkwood Hospital (Rehabilitation, Day Hospital, Ambulatory Clinics), 2 large acute care sites, outreach to the large region of Southwestern Ontario
