Interviews will be held in Calgary. We will endeavour to accommodate applicants’ schedules for travel as much as possible.

Selection Criteria

The Residency Training Committee will review all applications and determine which ones are acceptable. The pool of acceptable candidates will be prioritized by the Residency Training Committee.

Program Highlights

We offer a comprehensive program of clinical and academic training in geriatric medicine. Trainees will be exposed to a variety of geriatric practice settings including in-patient consults, out-patient clinics, day hospital, geriatric rehab, falls program, HELP program  and home visits. There are currently 10 geriatricians within the Division of Geriatrics, whom have taken a variety of career paths that include  teaching, education, administration, research, knowledge translation, clinical informatics and quality improvement. Trainees will be given the opportunity to work with most of the divisional members during their training. The program will cover the cost of registration and travel to one national conference per year.


Program Curriculum

Selection of mandatory and elective rotations.

Weekly academic half-days to deal with core topics in geriatric medicine.

Monthly geriatric journal club.

Specific training in communication skills.

Mandatory mentored research or quality improvement project that is to be planned and completed during the residency.

Opportunities to participate in geriatric program planning and evaluation.

Quarterly formative and yearly summative evaluations.

On-going career counselling during residency training.
