Metro Toronto Convention Centre
The Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) is excited to once again host the fourth annual International Medical Graduate Information Symposium at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Monday, October 17th, 2011.
Who is the symposium for?
The symposium provides a venue for international medical graduates (IMGs) who want to better understand the pathways to practice in Canada, to interact with and learn about the key organizations involved in the integration of IMGs into the Canadian health care system.
How does the symposium benefit IMGs?
The symposium provides a central forum for organizations in the Canadian medical education sector to address and interact with international medical graduates (IMGs).
In addition to CaRMS, the partner organizations listed in the right hand column will also be participating in this year's event. The Symposium will also include exhibit booths from various IMG related organizations from across the country.
Plenary
The conference begins with a plenary session led by members of the Medical Council of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
The MCC will demonstrate a National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) station providing an incredible opportunity to experience the examination first hand as well as gain a better understanding of what to expect.
A Family Practice in Canada presentation will then take place, describing the scope of practice, differences between rural and urban practice, recent efforts at primary care reform and how that has affected the practice of family medicine recently, and how it will affect it in the future. The presentation will be led conjointly by a member of CFPC staff familiar with professional issues, and a recently licensed international medical graduate and College member currently working as a family physician.
Following the plenary, registrants will have the opportunity to visit exhibit booths and attend sessions.
