Dr. Franco Rizzuti is a native Calgarian and a medical resident graduating in 2017 with an MA and MD from the Leaders in Medicine program at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

Franco’s graduate work investigated physician leadership competencies as physicians transitioned into administrative/ leadership roles and explored the skills gap between junior and senior leaders. Franco also holds a BSc in Cellular & Molecular Biology from the University of Calgary. Franco hopes to pursue a career in Public Health & Preventative Medicine. Franco has a strong interest in medical leadership, medical education, and health system design, presenting and publishing on topics including medical professionalism, team-based learning, and accreditation methods design.

Franco is Past President of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students President. Prior to serving as CFMS President (2016-2017), Franco served as Vice-President Finance for the CFMS (2014-2016; 2 terms). He also served as the President of the Calgary Medical Students’ Association in 2013-2015, and past-president of the Calgary Medical Students’ Association in 2015-2016. He was the student co-lead and Independent Student Analysis(ISA) co-author for accreditation at the Cumming School of Medicine (2014-2016).

Prior to medical school, Franco served two terms as the President of the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) at the University of Calgary, a $4 million not-for-profit student association representing over 6,000 graduate students. He was also Chief Financial Officer and then Chair of the Alberta Graduate Council, representing over 10,000 graduate students in Alberta. Franco was a director on the founding board of West Campus Development Trust as well as served 2 terms as director on the University of Calgary Board of Governors. Franco currently sits as a voting member of the Cumming School of Medicine Alumni Board.

Outside of the medical community, Franco continues his passion for health equity and community vibrancy as a member of the Calgary Hub of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Community.
