Dr. Michael Ertel is a practicing emergency physician at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) and has been a member of the Interior Health medical community for more than 20 years. As a highly regarded speaker in Emergency Medicine, he brings energy, passion, and a track record for engaging and leading physicians.

Dr. Ertel has previously served as VP, Medicine and Quality for the BC Interior Health Authority, and as the Executive Medical Director for Interior Health Central and South Okanagan. He has also served as the Chief of Staff at KGH, the KGH Emergency Department Head, and the Interior Health Medical Director for Emergency Services.

Dr. Ertel has extensive clinical and leadership experience, spanning tertiary care through to rural family practice, in addition to being involved in clinical research. He is a founding member of the Interior Health Research Ethics Board and has teaching experience with the UBC Southern Medical Program.

Outside of work, Dr. Ertel enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, running, biking, skiing, and playing hockey. In his spare time, he serves as one of the team doctors for the Kelowna Rockets Hockey Club and he has been a ski doc at Big White for more than 10 years.
