Update from the Chair of the Board of Directors
Find out what’s new
The CaRMS Board of Directors recognizes the importance of working with our many partners in medical education. Relationships with our stakeholders, fostered through transparency and consultation, remain a priority for CaRMS and the Board, along with our commitment to timely, effective and transparent communication.
New member organizations
The Board plays a fundamental role in guiding our organization’s growth and development. A highlight of the proposed CaRMS by-law amendments being presented to members for ratification at the November 2016 members’ meeting is the addition of two member organizations, the Fédération médicale étudiante du Québec (FMEQ) and the Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec (FMRQ).
We are excited to welcome these two organizations as members and look forward to a future of collaborative engagement.
Sandra Banner Student Award for Leadership
The online application process for the 2017 Sandra Banner Student Award for Leadership opened on October 1, 2016. The award, which supports the development of future leaders in medicine, was established by the Board in recognition of Sandra Banner’s years of leadership in medical education. The award, which is presented to one undergraduate medical student and one postgraduate trainee, is accompanied by financial support for leadership activities. I encourage all interested eligible students to visit CaRMS.ca/sbsal to learn more.
My term as CaRMS’ Board Chair will come to an end this month and I will not be standing for re-election.
Janice Willett, currently CaRMS’ Vice-Chair, has approved her name to go forward for nomination as Board Chair on the October 28 Board meeting nomination slate. Preston Smith has approved his name to go forward for nomination as Vice-Chair on the same slate.
As the organization continues to evolve steadily through periods of growth and development, we will continue looking for new opportunities to ensure we are providing a reliable application and match process for postgraduate medical training in Canada.
Dr. Willa Henry
Chair, CaRMS Board of Directors
