Medical school transcripts

A medical school transcript is a list of marks from your undergraduate medical education.

Graduates of Canadian and United States medical schools

In general, CaRMS receives transcripts for students or graduates of Canadian and US medical schools participating in the R-1 match directly from universities.

If you are applying through CaRMS for the first time, your transcripts must be requested from your university. If you participated in an R-1 Main Residency Match prior to 2013, you may be able to have your previous application material forwarded to your current profile, including documents. If you have participated in the R-1 Main Residency Match since 2013, your previous documents will appear in your current profile.

If you previously participated in a CaRMS match and have had your documents forwarded to your current profile, you may not have a complete version of your undergraduate medical transcript, as it may have been submitted to CaRMS before the completion of your final training year. You must decide whether or not you wish for your medical school to provide a completed copy for your application. Incomplete documents may not be accepted by programs.

If your undergraduate or graduate work was conducted at the same school where you received your medical degree, your medical school transcript may include these marks as well. We cannot separate medical school results from other marks.

If a program requests a transcript from your Bachelor’s degree, you must create a placeholder for the transcript — even if the transcript is the same as the medical school transcript.

If you have attended a previous medical school, please contact us at operations@carms.ca we will create an additional medical school record in your application.

Graduates of international medical schools

International medical schools can use our secure online transfer site or undergraduate (UG) portal to send in your transcripts. Medical schools can register for these services by contacting documents@carms.ca. Or if you are registered with physiciansapply.ca, you can have your transcript transferred to CaRMS through the physiciansapply.ca online portal. A placeholder for this document is automatically created in CaRMS Online.

If you previously participated in a CaRMS match and have had your documents forwarded to your current profile, you may not have a complete version of your undergraduate medical transcript, as it may have been submitted to CaRMS before the completion of your final training year. You must decide whether or not you wish for your medical school to provide us with a completed copy for your application or upload an updated version. Incomplete documents may not be accepted by programs.

If your medical school transcript is in a language other than English or French, you must provide an official translation. If a program requires the foreign language document, upload the document in your CaRMS Online account. Please do not submit the original foreign language document to CaRMS unless requested as an extra document by the program.

If you have attended a previous medical school, please contact us at operations@carms.ca we will create an additional medical school record in your application.
