Lending a hand throughout the match
By: Ryan Kelly, Manager, Client Relations
The application process for postgraduate medical training in Canada can seem a bit daunting at first glance. There is a lot of critical information to process in a relatively short amount of time. That’s why we offer a variety of resources to assist applicants as they prepare applications to any of our four residency matches.
First, we offer one-on-one assistance through a bilingual help desk staff. The team can be reached by phone (1.877.227.6742) or email (email@example.com) if you have any questions throughout the match year. They are an experienced and dedicated group, and they will get you the answers you are looking for. Sometimes we get questions that are related to the process that fall outside our domain – in those cases we will do our best to direct you where you need to go. Either way, when in doubt give us a call.
The CaRMS website is a one-stop shop for all the information you need regarding the match process. There is a section for everything, and in our help resources section you’ll find links to our support materials. Let’s take a closer look…
Match overview handouts
These overviews are designed to give applicants and programs a general outline of the match and an idea of what to expect over the course of a timeline that includes many milestones and deadlines. The overviews also provide information about the Match Algorithm used in our matches, as well as a series of frequently asked questions.
For more technical assistance with our online application platform, CaRMS Online, we offer our CaRMS Online help guides. These guides give CaRMS Online users the practical skills to successfully navigate the system and build their application with ease.
Throughout the match year, we also offer interactive webinar tutorials for our clients to learn about CaRMS Online and ask questions in a live presentation format. Recorded versions of these webinars, as well as a host of other instructional videos, can be found on our YouTube channel.
Applicants who follow CaRMS on social media can expect to receive regular notifications about match timelines and processes, CaRMS services, publication releases and events through Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Follow us so you can stay up to date on all things related to our matches.
From time to time, we undertake routine system maintenance on CaRMS Online or perform upgrades to introduce new functionality. Sometimes things just don’t work as expected and we need to address them. Through CaRMSalert.ca, we’re committed to keeping you in the loop when service disruptions or other system issues occur. And if you’re experiencing issues with CaRMS Online, your first stop should be CaRMSalert.ca, where you’ll be made aware of any current disruptions to our services—including an estimated time of resolution.
I encourage you to use the resources made available to you during your match year, or even leading up to your match year. Getting the critical information you need will free up your time to focus on your application and your journey through medicine.
