CRITERIA FOR ALL MEDICAL GRADUATES

GENERAL INFORMATION To be eligible in Quebec, candidates must hold a medical degree from a Canadian medical school or a degree from outside Canada (IMG).

They must be in the second year of a family medicine residency or have passed the family medicine certification examination of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Candidates must be able to start their training at the latest on Monday, May 31st, 2027.

SOURCE OF FUNDING Positions are funded by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec (unless otherwise specified). Some non-Ministry of Health positions may be available with another funding source; they are identified as such.
TRAINING LEVEL ELIGIBILITY Subspecialty: Enhanced skills

Training level: Current Canadian Family Medicine training​

Eligibility details:

Contingent régulier (Regular quota)

  • Current residents, R2s (year 2), registered in Family Medicine Training Programs in Québec

AND/OR

  • Have completed Family Medicine Training Programs in Québec in the Contingent régulier

Contingent particulier (Particular quota):

  • Current residents, R2s (Year 2), registered in Family Medicine Training Programs, outside Quebec

AND/OR

  • Current residents, R2s (Year 2), registered in Family Medicine Training Programs, in Québec, in contingent particulier positions.

AND/OR

  • Residents who have completed Family Medicine in Québec and were in the contingent particulier positions

AND/OR

  • Residents who have completed Family Medicine in another province.
RESTRICTIONS

 

For NON MOH (non-Ministry of Health funded positions), candidates who obtained their MD in Québec and who have completed or currently completing residency training in Québec (whether in the contingent régulier or the contingent particulier) are not eligible.

The following candidates are not eligible to apply under this stream:

  • Candidates who obtained their MD in Québec and who have completed or currently completing residency training in Québec.
  • Applicants from the Canadian Armed Forces.
  • Trainees admitted in an Enhanced skills program in Québec are not eligible to apply to the Match to change programs.
MATCH STREAMS
  • Positions in the contingentrégulierare available to residents already training (or who have previously trained) in Quebec in the contingent régulier
  • Positions in the contingentparticulier are available to residents already training (or who have previously trained) in Quebec in the contingent particulier or currently training or having trained in other provinces or the United States. When equivalent applications are reviewed In the admissions process of a given program at a given faculty, applicants who are graduates of a Québec medical school and/or who have a marked interest for medical practice in Québec at the end of their training will take precedence in the selection for “contingent particulier” positions.
  • Non-ministry funded positions: positions can be offered to candidates who obtained their MD from a Canadian Medical School outside Québec and to candidates who are currently completing residency training in Family Medicine outside Québec.
  • Not eligible for the Non MOH stream: Candidates who obtained their MD in Québec and who have completed or currently completing residency training in Québec.
  • Matched candidates enter the program at the R-3 level.

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA FOR CANADIAN MEDICAL GRADUATES

MEDICAL COUNCIL OF CANADA EXAMS There are no provincial MCC Examination requirements.
RETURN OF SERVICE (ROS) REQUIREMENTS There are no provincial ROS requirements.
MEDICAL EDUCATION MD degree required
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION N/A

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL GRADUATES

MEDICAL COUNCIL OF CANADA EXAMS If an IMG is already training in Canada, there is no additional requirements for this match.
RETURN OF SERVICE (ROS) REQUIREMENTS There are no provincial ROS requirements.
MEDICAL EDUCATION Recognition of the equivalency of the MD degree is not required for IMGs already training in Canada.

To apply, IMGs must be currently registered in a Québec Medical School in the contingent régulier or the contingent particulier or in another Faculty of Medicine in Canada.
