CRITERIA FOR ALL MEDICAL GRADUATES

GENERAL INFORMATION Three Quebec Faculties of Medicine (Université Laval, McGill University, Université de Montréal) offer training in subspecialties of Pediatrics to candidates who are, at the time of the Match, in their third or fourth year of Pediatrics in a Canadian or American Faculty of Medicine.

In the contingent régulier residents currently in their third year of residency in pediatrics will be considered. Some specific programs (Adolescent medicine, Developmental pediatrics, Palliative pediatric medicine) will be opened to fourth year pediatrics residents.

In the contingent particulier residents currently in their third or fourth year in pediatrics, or already in a pediatric subspecialty in a faculty of Medicine in a province other than Quebec, could be considered. Residents currently training in Quebec in the contingent particulier may be considered. Practising general pediatricians can also apply, provided that they would have practised at least 12 months before entering a subspecialty program.

Non MOH positions may also be offered.

LICENSING BODY Collège des Médecins du Québec
SOURCE OF FUNDING All positions are funded by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec (unless otherwise specified). Some non-Ministry of Health positions may be available with another funding source; they are identified as such.
TRAINING LEVEL ELIGIBILITY All Pediatrics residents in ACGME-accredited Pediatrics programs who are interested in applying for a Pediatrics subspecialty program in Canada will need to have their training assessed by the RCPSC in comparison to Canadian training.

  • A resident who has or will complete their Pediatrics residency in an ACGME-accredited program in the U.S. will need to complete an approved PGY-4 year in a core RCPSC Pediatrics program in Canada to be eligible to apply for subspecialty training in Canada. The RCPSC assessment of U.S. training will establish what is needed during the PGY-4 year. U.S residents interested in doing a PGY-4 year in a Canadian core Pediatrics program will need to reach out to the residency programs individually and explore if this opportunity is available.

OR

  • If a resident is completing a PGY-4 chief resident year in an ACGME-accredited program in the U.S., the RCPSC assessment of training will establish if the resident is eligible for the RCPSC examinations/fellowship. For more information on having your training assessed, please contact Chantal Benoit at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (cbenoit@royalcollege.ca)
