Over an 13-year period (2010 – 2022), we asked R-1 Main Residency Match applicants to identify which factors influenced their decisions about their first-choice discipline and first-choice program location.
These heatmaps show the most influential factors over the last decade, based on the number of times each was identified by respondents in our annual post-match survey. For each factor, the darker colour indicates the highest percentage of respondents assigning it that level of influence.
