Match Day for the first iteration of the 2025 R-1 Main Residency Match was March 4, 2025. At the conclusion of the first iteration, 367 positions remain unfilled and will be automatically moved into the second iteration of the match.
First iteration Match Day marks the mid-point of the R-1 Match. Unmatched first iteration applicants receive an email with information about how to proceed in the second iteration, and all available positions move into the second iteration of the match.
Typically, the majority of first iteration unfilled positions are filled in the second iteration.
