Message from the CEO

As summer comes to an end and the new match cycle begins, this edition of Match Point is taking a look back at the results of the 2017 R-1 Main Residency Match—in some exciting new ways.

At CaRMS we know the important role that data plays in the medical education community, and we take our position as stewards of that data very seriously. We share preliminary match highlights at the CaRMS Forum every year, we publish annual match reports and trends to share detailed match data with anyone and everyone who wants to know more, and this year we also created an interactive data tool that lets you click through 10 years of CMG quota and application data.

We’re also trying out a couple of new ways to share match data, both of which you’ll find in this edition of Match Point. First, we’re debuting two short videos explaining some key match outcomes—a general context-setting overview, and a focused look at the concept of discipline supply and demand. Second, our R-1 match infographic paints an interesting picture of the last three years of high level match results.

The other feature you’ll find here is our new applicant help video series. Available in both English and French, these videos break the match process up into easily digestible pieces so applicants can get the information they need exactly when and how they want it—one step at a time, or all at once in a convenient playlist.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Match Point. And as always, please let us know what you think!
