CaRMS is proud of its role in the Canadian postgraduate residency match system. We know how important a fair, objective and transparent application and matching process is to learners, faculties, and all Canadians, and we remain committed to continuing to work with our partners to ensure its integrity and effectiveness.

In order to administer the match, CaRMS enters into contracts with both medical learners and the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), as the agent for Canada’s faculties of medicine.

We are pleased to share the following update regarding our ongoing work with AFMC toward a renewed contract:

  • Both AFMC and CaRMS are coming to the table in good faith to secure a contract that can create stability in the environment.
  • We agree on the importance of a learner-first approach to match service delivery and decision-making.
  • Issues related to governance of the match must include learner voices, and the contract under negotiation today does not seek to override that requirement.
  • We commit to sharing more information with the broader community about the ongoing negotiations between AFMC and CaRMS as soon as possible.
