The 2021 FM/ES match marked the first year this match, previously known as the Family Medicine / Emergency Medicine (FM/EM) match, included the national participation of all category one enhanced skills programs. New disciplines that joined the match included Addiction Medicine, Care of the elderly, Enhanced surgical skills, Family practice anesthesia, Palliative care (1-yr academic), Obstetrical surgical skills, and Sport and exercise medicine.
