The Family Medicine / Emergency Medicine (FM/EM) match will be renamed the Family Medicine / Enhanced Skills (FM/ES) match for the 2021 match cycle.
The FM/EM match was introduced in 2006 for applicants who completed or were completing postgraduate training in Family Medicine in Canada and wanted to pursue additional training in Emergency Medicine. The 2021 Match cycle will see the national participation of all Category One enhanced skills programs, so the match name is being updated to reflect this change. The disciplines joining the match include:
- Addiction Medicine
- Care of the elderly
- Enhanced surgical skills
- Family practice anesthesia
- Palliative care (1-yr academic)
- Sport and exercise medicine
