CRITERIA APPLICABLE TO ALL MEDICAL GRADUATES |

GENERAL INFORMATION | To be eligible in Quebec, candidates must hold an MD degree from a Faculty of Medicine in Canada or hold a degree from outside Canada (IMG). To be admitted in a medical specialty, they must be registered in the third year of an Internal Medicine residency in a Canadian or an American Faculty of Medicine (except when applying for the Critical Care program for which residents In their fourth or fifth year may be considered). Furthermore, since 2022, Quebec’s faculties of medicine may consider applications from the following candidates:
In the particular quota, residents who are planning to complete a Chief Medical Resident (CMR) year may be considered. For thoracic surgery and psychiatrics subspecialties participating in tis match, see special rules below. Faculties cannot commit to offering a spot to a candidate who does not complete the match process. Thus, unmatched candidates in the first iteration have to participate in the second iteration and have to submit a rank order list each time. |

SOURCE OF FUNDING | Unless otherwise specified, all positions are funded by Quebec’s ministry of Health and Social services. Some residency positions (moniteurs cliniques) with a different source of funding source may be offered and are identified as Non-MOH positions. |

Candidates who are unable to start their R-4 on July 1 are eligible provided they can start their training by no later than the last period of the academic year for which they are applying June 1st, 2026. Subspecialty: Hematology Training level: Current resident Eligibility details: Programs may consider candidates currently in fifth year in hematology Subspecialty: Medical Oncology Training level: Current resident Eligibility details: Programs may consider candidates currently in fifth year in medical oncology Subspecialty: Adult Infectious Diseases Training level: Current resident Eligibility details: Programs may consider candidates currently in fifth year in this specialty who want to be trained for a sixth year to obtain the double certification. Subspecialty: Occupational Medicine Training level: Current resident Eligibility details: Candidates with training in public health and preventive medicine may also apply. Candidates must have completed five years of postgraduate medical training in public health and preventive medicine before undertaking the occupational medicine program. Candidates must be able to start their medical specialty program no later than Monday, June 1, 2026. For residents currently training in Quebec: Only residents from the core program in internal medicine whose training is out of phase by seven or more periods at the deadline for the submission and assignment of applications and documents may be exceptionally authorized to switch to a later cohort. Residents in this situation who wish to take advantage of this possibility must present a written request to their Faculty’s office of Postgraduate Medical Education. The request to switch cohorts must be approved by the Associate Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education and is irreversible. |

MEDICAL EDUCATION | Recognition of the equivalency of the MD degree is not required for IMGs already training in Canada or the United States.
