Criteria for all medical graduates

CRITERIA FOR ALL MEDICAL GRADUATES
GENERAL INFORMATION	The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health and the University of Saskatchewan, College of Medicine have agreed to the following policies and eligibility requirements for the 2026 Family Medicine/Enhanced Skills match. Please note that individual programs may have specific criteria that will be used to review applications. Applicants are responsible for reviewing program-specific criteria, as well as the criteria listed below, to ensure they meet all requirements and eligibility criteria. Failure to meet or provide proof of any of the stated requirements or documents may result in an applicant’s file not being reviewed or ranked. ACLS Prior to the commencement of training, successful applicants must provide proof of ACLS certification that is current as of July 1, 2026. The ACLS Provider course must be certified by the American Heart Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. ACLS certification that is not endorsed by these organizations, or is completed entirely through an online course, will not be accepted. Applicants are responsible for all costs associated with obtaining ACLS certification.
LICENSING BODY	College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan Successful applicants must be eligible for and maintain registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan for an educational register license and must maintain eligibility for an educational register license throughout their entire training program. Credentialing Successful applicants must be eligible for and maintain privileges within the Saskatchewan Health Authority as determined by its credentialing process.

TRAINING LEVEL ELIGIBILITY	Subspecialty: Enhanced skills Training level: Current Canadian Family Medicine training Eligibility details: Applicants must currently be completing their PGY2 year in a Family Medicine Residency program accredited by CCFP or have obtained the CCFP designation. (Note: Successful applicants must hold a CCFP designation at the time the Family Medicine/Enhanced Skills training commences) Subspecialty: Enhanced skills Training level: Licensed physicians with CCFP designation Eligibility details: Licensed physicians who have obtained the CCFP designation are eligible.
RESTRICTIONS	Applicants who are not eligible at the University of Saskatchewan include: Visa students studying at Canadian Medical Schools. Students whose postgraduate training is funded by the Department of National Defense.

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA FOR CANADIAN MEDICAL GRADUATES
MEDICAL COUNCIL OF CANADA EXAMS	There are no provincial MCC Examination requirements.
RETURN OF SERVICE (ROS) REQUIREMENTS	Applicants must declare any Return of Service obligations on their application and may be disqualified if their provincial obligations preclude subspecialty training. Applicants are required to provide written verification from their funding agency confirming they have received approval from the funding agency to apply to the FM/ES match.
MEDICAL EDUCATION	N/A

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL GRADUATES
MEDICAL COUNCIL OF CANADA EXAMS	Examination: MCCQE Part I Requirement: Mandatory with exceptions Date/milestone assessment submission required: File review opening IMG applicants must satisfy CPSS requirements for educational licensure, including relevant examinations in effect at the time of application. IMG applicants who have completed Family Medicine residency training outside Canada and obtained the CCFP designation may be exempted from the MCCQE1 requirement if they have passed the USMLE Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3. Any exemptions will be determined by CPSS. Medical Council of Canada (MCC) examination data and documents are only accepted as transfers from physiciansapply.ca.
