The 2021 R-1 match timeline is currently under review.

The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) Resident Matching Committee (ARMC) is developing a new timeline that will see some milestones and deadlines shifted later in the year to accommodate schedule changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. A revised timeline will be posted once approved.

The 2022 R-1 Main Residency Match timeline is not yet available.

Match timelines are drafted by CaRMS and provided to the Association of Faculties of Medicine Canada Resident Matching Committee (ARMC) for consultation and approval. They are posted once approved.

It is your responsibility to follow university procedures to ensure your medical school transcript and MSPR are sent directly to CaRMS. You can verify whether documents have been received through your Document Tracking section in CaRMS Online.

Note: we will continue to process hardcopy documents that arrive after this date, but, due to the high volume of documents received, we cannot guarantee they will be available in your account before file review begins.

DEADLINE: submission of translation requests

If an applicant would like for their transcript, MSPR or any letters of reference to be translated using our translation service, applicants must make the request through CaRMS Online by today to allow sufficient time for translation before file review begins on November 18. DEADLINE: application and document assignments

Applications and all required documents (excluding letters of reference) must be assigned to programs by 12:00 (noon) ET today to be considered as being submitted on time.

All applications and documents assignments (excluding letters of reference) completed after today will be time-stamped as late.

Note: some programs will not review late applications or a document that arrives late. We encourage applicants to review program descriptions to ensure programs will review their application if it is submitted after file review has begun.

Staged release of letters of reference: the PGME and UGME Associate Deans of the faculties of medicine of Canada, with CaRMS’ input, have decided to open file review a week earlier than usual to allow more time for programs to review applications. In order to not penalize applicants who have scheduled electives ending in November and are potentially requesting a letter of reference from this elective, letters of reference will not be available for programs to review until the following week. Applicants have until November 25, 2020 at 12:00 (noon) ET to assign letters of reference to programs.
