You will notice that there are milestones and deadlines listed in this timeline. Milestones are simply recommended dates designed to help you keep your application on track during each phase of the application process. These milestones are not deadlines.
All registered applicants are sent an email with information on how to log into CaRMS Online and start their application.
Applicants who already have a CaRMS Online account can log in using their existing username and password to participate in the match. If they’ve forgotten their username or password, they can click on the Forgot your username or password option on the CaRMS Online login page.
While we will process any translation requests for MSPRs, transcripts, and letters of reference during the second iteration, we cannot guarantee that they will be in the applicant’s account and ready to assign to programs by the opening of file review on May 3, 2021.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to follow university procedures to ensure the medical school transcript and MSPR are sent directly to CaRMS. They can verify whether documents have been received through the Document Tracking section in CaRMS Online.
Note: we will continue to process documents that arrive after this date, but, due to the high volume of documents received, we cannot guarantee they will be available in the applicant’s account before file review begins.
All MCC examinations and documents should be shared in the physiciansapply.ca transfers section of their application on CaRMS Online by today to ensure an applicant’s examination scores and documents are retrieved from the MCC before file review begins on May 3.
Note: we will continue to process transfer requests after this date, but cannot guarantee scores and documents will be available from the MCC before file review due to the time required for processing.

Unmatched applicants from the first iteration may log into CaRMS Online and participate in the second iteration.
Note: program selection for the second iteration opens on April 21 at 12:00 (noon) ET.

If your university is sending an applicant’s Medical School Performance Record (MSPR) and transcript to the CaRMS Document Centre, they should arrive by this date to guarantee they will be processed into their account before May 3 when programs start reviewing applications.

Referees are to submit a letter of reference through the CaRMS Online Referee portal, ensure they are submitted by this date to give applicants enough time to assign to programs in CaRMS Online before letters of reference are available for programs to review.
Applications and all required documents (including letters of reference) must be assigned to programs by 12:00 (noon) ET today to be considered as being submitted on time.
All applications and documents assignments (including letters of reference) completed after today will be time-stamped as late.
Note: some programs will not review late applications or a document that arrives late. We encourage applicants to review program descriptions to ensure programs will review their application if it is submitted after file review has begun.
Programs now have access to all submitted applications and documents (including letters of reference). They will review applications and communicate with applicants to schedule interviews.
Note: there is no designated national interview period for the second iteration of the R-1 Main Residency Match.
Applicants and programs may begin creating their rank order lists.
Applicants must have their rank order list submitted through CaRMS Online by 15:00 ET. This deadline is firm – no rank order lists can be submitted after today.
