All applicants applying to the Spring Subspecialty Residency Match must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents at the time of application. There are two options to prove your citizenship/legal status.

Proof of citizenship must be submitted by the deadline for submission and assignment of applications and documents, unless otherwise indicated below.

  1. QUEBEC: Visa students and U.S citizens are eligible only if they are already studying in Quebec with a student permit. 
  2. ONTARIO: Must be accompanied by a Canadian government-issued photo ID. 
  3. ONTARIO: Citizens of Indigenous nations where Treaties allow individuals to work and train across the USA-Canada border are eligible to undergo postgraduate medical training in Canada once their Indigenous citizenship is verified, even if they do not have Canadian citizenship. Of note, it may be necessary to obtain a work visa prior to starting postgraduate training. 
  4. MANITOBA: Must be accompanied by government-issued documentation verifying proof of eligibility to work in Canada. 
  5. ALBERTA: If you are submitting proof of Canadian Permanent Residence from 2002 or earlier, you must also submit the Record of Landing, clearly showing the date of landing in Canada. 
  6. BRITISH COLUMBIA: Must be accompanied by government-issued documentation verifying proof of eligibility to work in Canada.
