All applicants applying to subspecialty matches must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents at the time of application.
CaRMS has partnered with third-party organizations to automate the verification of citizenship/legal status required for entry into residency. There are two options to prove your citizenship/legal status. The first option is to share a confirmed IVP (Identity Validity Period). The second option is uploading a notarized/certified photocopy of one of the accepted documents below in line with the programs you are interested in applying, by province.
Proof of citizenship must be submitted by the deadline for submission and assignment of applications and documents, unless otherwise indicated below.

- QUEBEC: Visa students and U.S citizens are eligible only if they are already studying in Quebec with a student permit.
- ONTARIO: Must be accompanied by a Canadian government-issued photo ID.
- ALBERTA: If you are submitting proof of Canadian Permanent Residence, you must also submit the Record of Landing, clearly showing the date of landing in Canada. The Record of Landing is not accepted on its own. It must accompany proof of Canadian Permanent Residence
